FORT WORTH — While Walter Dansby is the new superintendent of the Fort Worth Independent School District, he is a familiar face.

Dansby has been with the district for nearly 40 years, but this is his first full year as its leader.

He wants families to notice a major change in culture; he calls it his "singleness of purpose."

"Everything we should do, and everything we will do will be pointed toward that end... that we think about our students first, and what does it mean in support of our students," he said. "These kids are going to be prepared for the workplace."

Fort Worth ISD also plans an aggressive push to sign up parents for an online "parents portal" to make sure they're involved in their children's learning. The portal gives information on grades, homework and other topics.
