Garland High School
GARLAND — A Garland High School student was arrested Wednesday morning after he was found on campus with a loaded gun.
Police said school officials received a tip that Carlos Rodriguez, 17, might be carrying a weapon. When he was approached, Rodriguez admitted he had a loaded pistol in his backpack.
The school's resource officer took Rodriguez into custody and he was taken to the Garland Detention Center without incident, according to a police statement.
The teen remained in custody on Wednesday evening facing charges of having a prohibited weapon in a weapons-free zone, which is a second-degree felony.
