FORT WORTH — Dr. Melody Johnson, former superintendent of the Fort Worth Independent School District, is joining the Texas Christian University College of Education as the Scholar in Residence.
Johnson will work with the faculty in the educational leadership program and teach a leadership class in the spring of 2012, according to a news release from the university.
Johnson served for six years as superintendent of the Fort Worth ISD. Dr. Mary Patton, dean of TCU's College of Education, said Johnson's experience as an administrator and her knowledge of the Fort Worth and state education systems will prove "invaluable" for TCU.
In the news release, Johnson was quoted as saying she is "vitally interested in improving leadership in urban school settings."
"I am excited about the conversations we have begun regarding hosting a national symposium on school governance, leadership institutes, cutting edge and innovative leadership development, and the focus on urban education under the leadership of Dean Patton," Johnson added.
