FORT WORTH - The Fort Worth school board voted unanimously Tuesday night to give teachers and staff a one-time bonus.

The district said it can't afford pay raises with a nearly $28-million deficit, but trustees felt they needed to give workers something to boost morale and to keep teachers.

About 11,000 workers will get a one-time extra payment equal to one percent of their salary.

It will cost Fort Worth ISD about $5 million.
