DENTON — A 78-year-old woman said she'll take her chances rather than take a series of five rabies shots after she was bit by a dog at a Denton park.

While Shirley George said she figures it's likely the dog that bit her at the park was current on its shots, she still can't be sure.

George was bitten on Thanksgiving Day while trying to protect her daughter's small terrier mix, "Scooby," at Lake Forest Park.

As she bent down to pick up Scooby, a large, aggressive dog came in to attack. She said the animal took a bite out of her arm.

George said she immediately went to the emergency room for treatment and didn't get to talk to the dog's owner to confirm whether  the dog had all its shots.

A witness who tried to question the dog owner said she left without providing any information. State law requires dogs to be quarantined for ten days after biting someone.

George said she hopes the dog's owner will come forward and give her answers to ease her mind.

In the end, George did successfully save Scooby, who received only minor wounds.
