WAXAHACHIE - Today's Our Neighbor lives up to its name - The Hope Clinic.
Based in Waxahachie, the clinic serves people with good health care at a fraction of the cost.
At the Hope Clinic, their vision is to provide health care to any Ellis County resident who walks through their door, and that's medical or dental.
Most of the people here are on Medicaid and can't find a doctor to treat them.
"I tried calling different doctors and they don't take it," said patient, Brian Cleveland.
Cleveland has been experiencing seizures and doesn't know what's wrong with him. At the Hope Clinic he now has two doctors trying to figure it out.
"The thing I've noticed is that the clinic does a great job. The care is first class and the people are appreciative and thankful," said Hope Clinic volunteer, David Linguist.
Linguist is one of several volunteer doctors at the Hope Clinic who donates their time and talent to care for low income citizens.
He's always humbled by the experience.
"The huge majority of people here are working, they have jobs, do their best but the system is kind of screwed up for them. They don't have an employer that provides health care, they make minimum wage," he said.
The bottom line at the Hope Clinic is that no one is ever turned away. There is a sliding scale depending on your income as to how much you pay for your visit but you're never denied a doctor.
Thanks to donors, some federal funding and volunteer doctors, the Hope Clinic can serve patients who would otherwise be waiting in long lines at a hospital emergency room.
"We all need to help each other," said Dr. Linguist.
The clinic has come a long way in the last 10 years, but they are bursting at the seams and need to raise money for expansion.
