DALLAS — "Our Neighbor" is trying to make Dallas a no-kill city.

Paws in the City is a group of animal lovers who rescue dogs and cats at animal shelters before they're put down. They need you to join them and become a foster pet parent.

Since January, the organization has adopted out 175 dogs.

"We'll get a call from Dallas Animal Services saying how many dogs need to be pulled, and it's usually on a Tuesday," said PITC co-founder Tara Harper. "We'll send out an e-mail to all of our list of people to see if they're willing to foster, or if a wonderful facility like Wüf is willing to bring dogs in free of cost."

Paws in the City, a non-profit organization, is run completely by volunteers like Harper. Every dollar they raise goes to foster, adoption, medical and spay/neuter programs.

Their goal is to find every adoptable dog and cat a loving home.

"I adopted a pet through Paws in the City, and I could not get Herbie off my bed for two weeks," said Jennifer Bassman of the Wüf Pet Resort and Spa. "They really understand the value of the home, and they're really grateful when they get one."

Every dog pictured in this report needs a home, but more than anything, Paws in the City needs foster parents.

"A major thing we need are foster homes," Harper said. "That is the most important thing we can have."

Paws in the City is committed to ending the abuse, neglect and overpopulation of dogs and cats. That's why we name them today's "Our Neighbor."

If you would like to foster a dog or cat, or if you can help Paws in the City in another way, contact me at my e-mail address below. Also, if you know someone we can feature in a future "Our Neighbor" segment, please send me your ideas.
