ARLINGTON - Tuesday's "Our Neighbor" has helped dozens of beautiful young women from across the Arlington Independent School District.
Thanks to The Junior League of Arlington's Glass Slipper Boutique, the senior prom will be extra special for 50 girls who couldn't afford prom dresses. It's a Cinderella story for the young girls.
"It's been really hard for me and my family and having this opportunity has been really awesome," said Brenda Fregoso, a Sam Houston senior.
On Saturday, the Junior League of Arlington held its third annual Glass Slipper Boutique. The first year Junior League members select girls from different schools to borrow dresses, accessories and shoes free of charge to wear to their prom.
"It's been amazing trying out the dresses and necklaces," Fregoso said. "I feel like a princess right now."
"This has helped because I'm a senior [and] got to get all my graduation stuff," said Andriana Ward, a Lamar High School senior. "... And I had a baby, so that was stressful."
The Glass Slipper Boutique is supported by donations from Junior League members and the Arlington community. With more than 1,000 dresses in all sizes and styles, no one left empty handed.
"[I'm] really, really excited," said "I felt like everyone was staring at me and I was really, really pretty. And now I feel like I'm going to be gorgeous at prom."
Fregoso brought her parents to help her shop. Before Saturday's event, she was afraid prom expenses would be a burden on her family.
"I was not going to come to prom this year because of that," she said. "Like I said, I'm really thankful for you guys coming here. I really am."
Every girl in the room had a story of hardship.
Terderrica Williams, who works at Six Flags part time to help her single mom, was moved to tears after she found the perfect red dress.
"I would like to say thank you for giving and hopefully I'll be in a position to give back," she said.
For their dedication to give back and help make dreams come true, WFAA named the Junior League of Arlington "Our Neighbor."
The Glass Slipper Boutique held the dress drive last month. They collected 87 dresses, as well as shoes, evening bags and accessories. Thanks to all the donors who made it possible.
