With school starting this week or next, it's also time to start thinking about the State Fair of Texas. Laura Thornquist shares "Insider Savings" tips.

We are only about one month away from the start of the State Fair, so it's time to start planning, and what better way to plan then to get a deal on tickets?

Big Tex has put together an early-bird special with discount on tickets plus food and ride coupons. The Early-Bird deal is good through August 31, so go to my website, mydfwmommy.com, and order your tickets.

The tickets will be mailed to you so you don't have to wait in line, another plus.

And, if you are feeling lucky, you could win one of 25 pairs of admission tickets that Pegasus News is giving away. All you have to do is like Pegasus News on Facebook and that enters you to win. All winners will be selected Thursday, so enter now.

Time now to introduce you to a few new friends. Some really great puppies are available for adoption at a special Operation Kindness adoption event on August 24 from 11:30 a.m. through 1 p.m. at  Norma's Cafe. The "Dog Days of Summer" event is at the Dallas location only.

Operation Kindness is already reducing their adoption fees by $25 for the event, but if you mention WFAA you will get $50 off your adoption fees.

All dogs are spayed and neutered, micro-chipped and have current vaccinations so you won't have to pay those extra expenses.

And, on top of that, anyone who stays for lunch and orders Norma's Double Barrel Chili Dog will get a free slice of pie. Plus, a portion of tea sales will be donated to Operation Kindness. So, help support Operation Kindness and find the dogs a new home.

There are also a few other restaurant deals to tell you about.

Thursday only, get one free kids meal with each adult purchase at On the Border, and visit the Olive Garden Friday for lunch and get 20 percent off your tab. The deal is only good August 24 before 4 p.m.
