DALLAS - Firefighters battled a blaze that broke out at a Dallas apartment complex at about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 7200 block of Chaucer Place.
Velma Adams, a resident at the Chaucer Place at Bella Vista Apartments, said she spotted smoke after waking up early in the morning.
"My alarm didn't go off or nothing," she said. "I just happened to get up and look out the window, checking on my car, and I saw this smoke. I tried opening the front door and the smoke just came in on me ... I couldn't go out the front door."
Adams, who has lived at the complex for four years, said she jumped over her patio balcony on the first floor to escape the fire. She said the fire started at a neighboring apartment.
The fire was extinguished by 6:45 a.m.
No injuries were reported and it was not known how many units were damaged in the fire as of 8:30 a.m.
