DALLAS - Police have located the parents of an abandoned child found wandering the breezeway of a motel early Wednesday morning in Dallas.

The manager at an Americas Best Value Inn called 911 at about 1:30 a.m. after a resident reported seeing a toddler alone at the motel, located in the 4100 block of Preferred Place. The toddler was wearing a long-sleeved T-shirt, jeans and socks, but was not wearing a coat or shoes.

According to a police statement, a witness told police the child was running back and forth in the breezeway and pulling on door handles on the second level of the motel.

When officers arrived at the scene, they went door to door searching for the child's parents. Police said when the officers were unsuccessful in locating the parents, they took the child to Child Protective Services, where the parents arrived later.

"It would have been very difficult not to hear officers knock because they were banging pretty hard," said Derrick Adams, who was staying at the motel on the same floor.

The toddler will remain at CPS as authorities continue to investigate the incident.

Witnesses claim police arrived at the motel an hour after the call was made to 911. As of noon, police had not responded to questions from News 8 on their response time.

No formal charges have been filed.
