ARLINGTON - Part of Arlington's new mass transit, the first Metro Arlington Xpress bus rolled out at 5:35 a.m. Monday.

Also known as MAX, Xpress stops are located at the TRE CentrePort station, south of the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, and at the eastern edge of UT Arlington at College Park Center.

David Harding, of Arlington, was the first to board a MAX bus Monday morning.

"It's been needed for a long time," he said. "This is a great first step toward providing public transportation in Arlington."

The two-year pilot program is designed to allow passengers to connect with trains that will take them to Dallas, Fort Worth or other destinations.

The system is comprised of three DART buses, two of which are in service and a third that serves as backup in case of mechanical problems.

Arlington leaders hope the system attracts visitors and new businesses.

The MAX runs from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday.  The cost of an-all day ticket is $5.
