DALLAS - Yoga fanatics in North Texas, there's a new hot yoga studio coming your way.
Saturday, Bikram “Hot” Yoga will open on McKinney and Lemmon avenues in Dallas and yoga champ Joseph Encinia will lead a public class.
Encinia was born and raised in Oak Cliff, and was the 2011 International Yoga Champion. He told News 8 his story Thursday, explaining how after many years of yoga practice, he was able to recover from pediatric rheumatoid arthritis at a young age and lose 50 pounds.
Encinia is able to contort his body into many different positions as a result of years of practice. While it might look difficult at first, Encinia explained that Bikram Yoga is something anyone can do.
"When I first started, I couldn't even touch my toes," he said. "I was very stiff; I was overweight, joints were swollen, but I was very dedicated. My community, the teachers here, are so great. They kept pushing me, and so every day I went to yoga for about six years. Now, I’ve been doing yoga for about 10 years and my whole life has changed. Really, anybody can achieve this high level of success of health in their body by having a consistent practice.”
Encinia and other yoga experts will be at Bikram Yoga Dallas at West Village for their grand opening from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
