MESQUITE - A community has been added to the Union Pacific train map - Mesquite! On October 30, 2012 the City of Mesquite was awarded membership in Union Pacific's Train Town USA Registry. It's the 66th community out of more than 7,300 that Union Pacific serves to get recognized. The Train Town USA Registry program is part of the company's year-long 150th anniversary celebration.

Mesquite has two Union Pacific facilities - an intermodal terminal for trains carrying containers and a facility that supports automotive manufacturers. The two facilities cover 125 acres with 1,600 parking stalls for trailers and containers.

Goods are transported in and out of Mesquite on a daily basis. It is a very efficient process for the city. One train car takes 280 trucks off the roads! Nationwide, around 45% of goods such as chemicals, automobiles, intermodals, coal, agriculture, and industrial products are still transported by train car.
