DALLAS - The final fall touches are underway at the Dallas Arboretum. Over 50,000 pumpkins, squashes, and gourds will transform the gardens into the annual Storybook Pumpkin Village.

Four pumpkin houses make up the fairytale themed Pumpkin Village - Cinderella's Ballroom, Cinderella's Fairy Godmother's tiny house, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, and Dr. Pompo's Nose. Look closely - the pumpkin village is made up of 40 different species of pumpkins, squashes, and gourds - some are far from the normal "Jack-o-Lantern" pumpkin!

There will also be the Tom Thumb Pumpkin Patch, a hay-bale maze, live music, crafts, and much more fall fun for the family!

As News 8 learned Wednesday morning, it takes a lot of work and pre-planning to set this up.

"We have to place our pumpkin orders far in advance," said Vice President of Gardens Dave Forehand. "You don't just go online and buy pumpkins. We actually have to have them specially grown for us to make sure we get what we want. So it's almost a year ahead of time to coordinate what we are going to have and hopefully get them on time from a delivery stand point."

Autumn will officially take over the Arboretum on the official start of fall on Saturday! News 8 even received our very own Autumn souvenir - a WFAA pumpkin. Hello fall (and cooler temperatures), good-bye summer!

The Pumpkin Village begins Saturday, Sept. 22 and runs through Nov. 21.
