DALLAS — Dallas police arrested a man they call a "person of interest" in nine sexual assaults reported in the Fair Park area.
Alan Mason was taken into custody at 3 a.m. at an Arlington apartment complex in the 2500 block of Summer Tree Circle.
Authorities said they were alerted to the location after DPD's Metro TASK Force and Department located Mason's silver Honda parked outside a Mesquite home. According to police, a relative inside the home told them of Mason's apartment in Arlington. Once located, Mason was arrested on an outstanding violation for a DWI conviction.
Mason was transported to the Dallas Police Department for questioning.
Thursday night, Mason was identified as a person of interest in the South Dallas serial rapist case.
The announcement came just a short time after a contentious community meeting where police attempted to answer questions about the series of nine unsolved sexual assaults in South Dallas.
Police said they received an anonymous tip that a person of interest had to get out of town because he had done something wrong, and gave an address located in the area where the sexual assaults had occurred.
Police found a silver 2001 Honda at the location, and a check of the license plate showed a warrant for probation violation for Mason, 29. Mason also wears the same type of eyeglasses that were worn during some of the offenses.
Mason is described as a black male, 5'-10", 185 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
