DALLAS - A nine-year-old girl reported missing after leaving class to use the restroom was found safe just before 4 p.m. at her apartment.

A spokesperson with the Dallas Independent School District said they were notified the girl was missing just before lunchtime at Herbert Marcus Elementary School, located in the 2900 block of Northaven Rd.

Police say the girl asked for a hall pass then slipped out of a side door at the school.

Dallas police, Search One Rescue, and dogs searched the area for hours before finding the child safe at the family's apartment. It's unclear how long she was at the apartment before she was found.

Police are talking to the girl to find out why she left.
