Tip from relative leads Dallas police to arrest in two separate murders

DALLAS — Authorities said a tip from an unnamed relative led Dallas police to an arrest in two separate murder cases.

According to a statement from the Dallas Police Department, Jasper Okeith Adams Jr., 18, was arrested Tuesday in the murder of Jeanine Ratliff on Sept. 3 and Roosevelt Rider on Saturday.

On the date of Sept. 3, authorities found Ratliff shot dead on the floor of a kitchen at a home in the 2600 block of Ann Arbor Ave. During their investigation, Dallas police said they discovered illegal drugs were being sold from the home, where Adams lived with Ratliff.

Authorities said they also received a tip from a relative of Adams that impilcated the teen in the fatal shooting.

Police arrested Adams on an outstanding warrant Tuesday. According to the Dallas police statement, during questioning, the suspect also admitted to killing Rider more than a week after Ratliff's murder.

Police said early Saturday morning, Adams went to a home in the 1700 block of Fernwood Ave. to confront Rider's nephew over money, leading to an argument between he victim and Adams. Authorities said the suspect told police he shot Rider outside the home before fleeing the scene. 

Adams was charged with two counts of first degree murder.
