A SWAT standoff with a man who allegedly beat, threatened and choked a woman inside a Terrell townhome ended peacefully late Monday morning, police say.
According to Terrell Police, a neighbor reported a man “with a gun, beating a woman” at a townhome on the 200 block of Lovers Lane around 10 a.m. The neighbor claimed to have seen the man threatening to kill the woman before notifying police.
The suspect, later identified as Danlar Andrew Johnson, let the victim leave the home before Terrell SWAT officers arrived.
“She had no visible injuries, but reported to police [Johnson] had choked her to the point she could not breathe,” police said.
During an ensuing standoff, police said Johnson “brandished his weapon at police through the windows,” but no shots were fired. Police say Johnson was threatening to hurt himself.
Johnson, 35, would eventually exit the home unarmed to surrender to authorities. He was taken into custody just before noon.
Police said Johnson was charged with family violence-assault-strangulation and was booked into the Terrell Municipal Jail. Additional charges were possible.
The victim, identified only as a 36-year-old Terrell woman, was being interviewed by investigators.
