Police: Carrollton church bookkeeper stole $279,000

CARROLTON -- A former bookkeeper at the First Baptist Church of Carrollton has been charged with theft for stealing more than $279,000 for personal purchases over the course of five years.
Jill Martin of The Colony was employed at the church from 2007 until January 2016. Church leaders first reported suspicious financial activity to police in February 2016.
According to police, Martin took out business credit cards in her own name without church authorization. She turned herself in to Carrollton police on Aug. 24.
