FORT WORTH — Authorities in Fort Worth are searching for a registered sex offender after he escaped from a halfway house early Wednesday morning.

According to a statement released by police, Charles Raymond Sprague, 44, is a "violent sexual predator" who has an "extensive criminal history, including aggravated kidnapping."

Police say Sprague cut off his ankle monitoring device and fled the house, where he was civilly committed, at about 5 a.m. in the 600 block of North Henderson.

A Native American, he's 6'6" and weighs about 240 pounds. He has black hair, brown eyes and was last seen wearing a "black leather jacket, dark jeans, white sneakers and carrying a clear backpack."

The Texas Department of Public Safety says Sprague has been added to its Most Wanted Sex Offenders list, and a $2,000 reward is now being offered for information leading to his arrest.

Anyone who sees Sprague or knows of his whereabouts is asked to call 911 or 214-861-2040.
