HALTOM CITY — At about 11 o'clock Monday night, surveillance cameras picked up a man apparently breaking into cars on Woodhaven Lane in Haltom City.

Homeowner Robert Richter went out to shoo him away, thinking it was just a local teenager, but Richter quickly received a nasty surprise.

As he turned, the man ran up behind him and took a swing with something in his hand.

"He'd already said he had a knife... said he had a gun," Richter recalled. "It's like, 'OK, I need to back up into the house while I got a chance.'"

The man cut Richter on the arm as the homeowner retreated.

"At that point, he's not behaving like a normal thief. He's probably high... doesn't care about anything," Richter said. "He'll hurt you, kill you... will not think twice about it."

Richter managed to slam the metal front door. He was relieved to see the man calmly walk away to a waiting SUV.

Now it's the attacker's turn for a nasty surprise.

Richter recently equipped his home with 11 surveillance cameras, enough to make the intruder the star of his own reality TV show.

The confrontation was clearly recorded from several different angles. Police are confident someone will recognize the man and that the video will help to convict him.
