WYLIE - Police said Thursday that Wednesday's accident that sent four to the hospital, initially believed to be a road rage incident, was in fact the result of the victims chasing the suspects in an earlier robbery.

Wylie police say it started around 1 p.m. in the 2800 block of FM 544. A white Dodge Charger and a blue Nissan then sped north on McCreary Road. They collided at the intersection of Riverway Lane in front of Groves Elementary School, with the Nissan going on to hit an innocent bystander in a minivan.

During the accident investigation, Wylie police dispatch reported an aggravated robbery at a business located in the 2800 block of FM 544, according to Thursday's release. Police determined the victims of the robbery were chasing the robbers, resulting in the crash. A gun was also found near the scene of the accident.

The two suspects in the blue Nissan were taken into custody Wednesday evening. The passenger of the white vehicle remains in critical condition.

The robbery investigation is on going.
