SAN JUAN (AP) -- Authorities say a drive-by shooting outside a polling place in South Texas sent a campaign worker to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
San Juan police Chief Juan Gonzalez says the 55-year-old was shot Tuesday outside a fire station that shares a building with police.
Witnesses tell the Monitor newspaper in McAllen that Sanchez was holding a campaign sign for constable candidate Hector "JoJo" Mendez when he was shot about 11 a.m.
Gonzalez says investigators are seeking a red pickup truck.
The polling location remains opened. The newspaper reports about 50 people had voted there by midday.
