A Dallas police officer has been fired, 10 days after he shot a mentally ill man during a disturbance call.
A department investigation found Officer Cardan Spencer did not follow the department's deadly force policy. Ofc. Spencer fired four shots at Bobby Bennett, who was standing still with his arms at his sides.
A grand jury will decide if the officer should face charges.
Bennett meanwhile, is still in the hospital. Chief David Brown apologized to Bennett and his family Thursday.
In the video above, Bennett's mother told News 8’s Jason Wheeler she hopes her family's ordeal will bring about change.
