Two deputies shot in Hill County
LAKE WHITNEY - A domestic violence call ended with two Hill County deputies shot and the suspect inuried.
It all started around 1:45 p.m. at a home near FM 1713 in Whitney.
A woman called police and reported her ex-husband was inside her house.
When one deputy arrived, he attempted to make contact with the suspect, but the man fired a shot and hit the deputy. His wound is reportedly superficial and grazed his back.
The special operations team arrived and tried to negotiate with the suspect, who was heavily armed with assualt rifles, among other weapons. He told deputies he would not come out without a fight, and reportedly set a fire in the house.
A flash-bang grenade was tossed inside to force the suspect to come outside, and the suspect came out of the home brandishing a gun, aimed his weapon at the deputies and fired. Officers fired back hitting the suspect. He was shot dead at the scene. Deputies have not released his identity.
The second deputy was hit in the leg from a ricocheting bullet during the shoot out. His injury is not life threatening.
The woman who placed the initial call was escorted away from the scene to a safe area and was not hurt.
No other injuries were reported. Both deputies are expected to be released Wednesday evening.
The investigation is ongoing and the Texas Rangers have been called in to assist. The fire in the home is also under investigation.
