SAN ANTONIO -- Stephen Boland and his daughter, Rachel, lost everything they owned while in San Antonio.
The father and daughter are in the process of moving from Sacramento to Atlanta for Boland's job. He works with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and is a Navy veteran.
The two packed everything they owned into a 20-foot U-Haul truck with a car in-tow.
The pair drove in from El Paso Sunday and opted to spend the night in San Antonio. They checked into their hotel and drove the U-Haul to the Riverwalk for dinner.
After their meal, when the father and daughter went back to their parking space, they realized the truck was gone.
Monday morning, police found the U-Haul on Tarasco Drive, near Loop 410 and Highway 90, on the west side. It was empty.
Documents belonging to Rachel Boland were thrown about the ground – that’s how police were able to inform the two that their trailer was found.
"We're going into our home on Wednesday ... and we have no unpacking to do,” Rachel explained from their empty hotel room near the airport.
The two said they have support from family members. They said all the material positions are replaceable, except for family photos and jewelry that had been in the family for decades.
"We are not going to let this stop us. We are just going keep on rolling. We'll overcome this,” Stephen Boland said.
