DALLAS - It was a year ago that former State Rep. Terri Hodge was sentenced to a year in prison for tax fraud.
As part of the Dallas City Hall bribery case, Hodge admitted to accepting $74,000 in off-the-books income.
Thursday, Hodge was greeted with a dozen yellow roses and hugs from friends, including former Rep. Harryette Earhardt.
Hodges' new home is a halfway house in Hutchins, which is a step up from the federal prison in Lexington, Kentucky where she's been since last June.
The 69-year-old was so popular among some constituents that they wrote her in for re-election while she was incarcerated. She will now have to report to a probation officer. Her sentence is officially over in June.
Her plans are uncertain.
"I'm not sure yet what I'm going to do," she said. "I'm going to spend time with my family, and try to get myself together and begin to do the things that I did prior to leaving Dallas. I may not be an elected official, but I will still work for the benefit of the people. Public service is my middle name."
