DALLAS -- A man was shot and killed in a car in Old East Dallas in broad daylight Thursday afternoon.
The car he was driving was loaded with furniture and someone's personal belongings, and hours after the shooting, the vehicle was still sitting in the middle of the street in the 1500 block of Annex with the driver's side door wide open.
Witnesses say they heard several gunshots, then saw the vehicle hit a tree. It soon came to a stop in the middle of the road.
The victim died on the way to the hospital.
Dallas police thought the shooter might have run into a nearby apartment, so they activated the department's SWAT team. They evacuated the building and kept neighbors away, but after making entry, they found the apartment empty.
The shooting victim's identity has not been confirmed.
