PORTER, Texas – A volunteer with the Salvation Army was arrested Monday afternoon after being accused of stealing from the Walmart Supercenter where she had been assigned, deputies said.
Royal Jean Shields, 56, of Conroe, is charged with felony theft of more than $50, but less than $500, deputies said.
According to the Montgomery County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office, a deputy constable responded to the store, located in the 23500 block of Interstate 59, at 3:30 p.m. after loss prevention employees detained Shields.
The employees said they witnessed Shields concealing merchandise in her Salvation Army apron and walking out of the store without paying for the merchandise.
Deputies said Shields had more than $70 worth of bottles of cologne and perfume concealed on her.
Because she had two or more prior theft convictions, the charge was automatically enhanced.
