We have uncovered new information in the case of Jeffrey Maxwell, the man accused in the kidnapping and prolonged torture of a Parker County woman.

Maxwell came close to prosecution for a similar case in 1987 involving the woman who was then his wife, Martha Martinez Maxwell.

Documents obtained by News 8 show why the case may not have gone to trial. Detectives searched the victim's home, believing they would find stun guns, blood-stained items, knives, and specific torture items; instead, they found little more than pornography.

Without evidence or a confession, the case became difficult to prove.

Martha Maxwell has been missing since 1992. Investigators are now taking a second look into her disappearance.
