PARKER COUNTY — Sheriff's deputies have arrested a man who allegedly robbed and pistol-whipped a paraplegic man in Azle before shooting and killing his service dog last Monday.

Parker County officials said 27-year-old Patrick Cox of Watauga is facing aggravated robbery charges. He was pulled over for a traffic violation in Watauga, where he is being held pending extradition to Parker County.

"We have obtained evidence linking the suspect to the crime, and another arrest is pending for an accomplice," said Parker County Sheriff Larry Fowler in a written statement.

Billy Hammons — who has been confined to a wheelchair since a car accident 18 years ago — was left with seven staples in his head after the attack at his home. The 37-year-old's service dog, Major, was shot and killed.
