DALLAS -- An Oak Cliff family is devastated after two of their own died this week in a tragic accident off West Ledbetter Drive.
The Arellano family was on their way home Sunday night when they were hit by another car. The driver of that car, Christopher Bynum, is behind bars facing intoxication manslaughter charges. Police say he was high on the drug known as PCP.
"I thought I was never going to see her like that. Never, in my life," said Abraham Cabrera, whose sister and niece died in the crash.
Eighteen-month-old Isabella Arellano and her mom, Catalina, were the two victims who didn't survive. The father, Rafael, and an infant son are recovering but devastated.
"I never imagined her lying like that," Briceida Villejas said, fighting back tears. She is a family cousin and said growing up with Catalina was always a fun time. "She was great."
For Cabrera, the past 48 hours have been bittersweet. At the same time that he was saying goodbye to his sister at Methodist Dallas Medical Center, his wife was at the same hospital giving birth to their first son.
"It was hard, because my sister was really excited that she was going to be an aunt," Cabrera said.
The family said memorial service arrangements are pending.
They also plan to set up a memorial fund at a local bank. Check back to WFAA.com in the coming days for more details on that.
