DALLAS - News 8 has learned that a high school football player has been arrested by Dallas police.
X'Eryus Dansby is currently a running back at South Oak Cliff, who transferred in January from O.D. Wyatt High School in Fort Worth.
Dansby was questioned by DPD most of the day Thursday. Sources tell News 8 after talking to him, they got a warrant for his arrest in a drive-by murder. Another man, Lantonio Ridley, 19, was also arrested Thursday as part of the investigation.
Recruiting video on ESPN.com said the Oregon Ducks were apparently interested in signing Dansby.
The shooting Dansby was arrested for happened at Creekside Villa Apartments on Jim Miller Road in Pleasant Grove just after midnight on Friday.
Sources tell News 8 Dansby was driving the car while two other suspects opened fire on a crowd. Three people were shot and one of them, LaDarius Williams, was killed.
According to police records, the shooting occurred "because a guy pistol whipped one of the suspects earlier that night while he was playing basketball."
Dansby's football coach, Emmett Jones, told News 8 he was surprised by the arrest, but knew the player was troubled.
"A lot of times I would try to call him, and I couldn't get in contact with him," Jones said. "Certain days it was like he was going down the right road, then all of a sudden, he would disappear for a week."
Dansby's Facebook page is filled with pictures of him showing gang signs, and the day after the shooting he posted a comment about dealing with death.
News 8 contacted a woman who said she is Dansby's mother. She told us she wasn't sure what was going on.
