David Matthew Merrill, the man who police say was on the run after having his bond revoked, has died.

Euless police said they found him shot and badly wounded Friday at the 183 Motel on Euless Boulevard.  Investigators believe he shot himself in the head.

He died at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth early Saturday morning.

Merrill, 36, failed to report back to jail, prompting a region-wide manhunt. He was charged in the murder of his father-in-law, Rudy Mata, in September 2012.

Mata was a singer with The Cavaliers, known for their 1960s hit, "Last Kiss."

The Medical Examiner's office report on the cause of Merrill's death is pending.
