DALLAS — A Dallas Morning News columnist has been arrested for misdemeanor assault, family violence.
Police told News 8 that James Ragland got into an argument with his wife on Saturday night, and she felt threatened. The dispute continued at church on Sunday, where members of the congregation called 911.
Ragland was arrested.
Dallas Morning News editor Bob Mong issued this statement:
"We will not be commenting until we learn more about the specifics. In the meantime, we care deeply about James and his wife and hope for the best possible outcome."
Ragland worked as a reporter for The Dallas Morning News starting in 1985, according to his online biography. He reported for The Washington Post between 1994 and 1999, then returned to the Morning News as an editor. He has been a columnist for the paper since 2000.
