JACINTO CITY, Texas — Two Jacinto City police officers, a male and a female, were reportedly shot Wednesday evening.
It happened in the 10400 block of Oswego Street, about 7 miles east of downtown Houston.
Jacinto City Police Chief Joe Ayala said the officers were responding to a disturbance call for a report of an attempted suicide. Family members were supposed to be holding a relative until police arrived, but that person got free and allegedly shot both officers.
The male officer was rushed by Life Flight to Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Texas Medical Center. The female officer was taken to Lyndon B. Johnson General Hospital. Chief Ayala says both officers are in stable condition.
A manhunt was under way for the suspect, identified as Edgar Cuellar.
Chief Ayala said Wednesday's violence may be linked to another incident a few days ago when Cuellar was allegedly walking around the neighborhood firing a weapon.
Houston Police Department officers and K-9 units were assisting in the search for Cuellar. HPD's SWAT team was also called to the scene.
Residents in the neighborhood have been told to stay inside their homes and lock the doors until the suspect is caught. Cuellar was believed to be armed and dangerous.
