TARRANT COUNTY -- A man convicted of killing his girlfriend and her 8-year-old son has been sentenced to death by a Tarrant County jury.
Cedric Allen Ricks, 39, stabbed Roxann Sanchez, 33, and her son Anthony Figueroa inside their Bedford Apartment last May, according to the Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney's Office. He also stabbed Sanchez's 12-year-old son, but he played dead and survived the ordeal.
A jury convicted Ricks last week of capital murder. Prosecutors called him a "psychopath" during the trial and said he had a history of violence against women.
“Cedric Ricks was given the sentence that we felt was deserved for the brutal double murder of his girlfriend and her young son,” said prosecutor Bob Gill. “This jury reaffirmed our experience that people who intentionally kill children receive the death penalty from Tarrant County juries.”
