DECATUR – The Wise County Sheriff’s Office says David Malone, the man charged with killing his 28-year-old girlfriend and leading police to her body, hanged himself in his jail cell Wednesday night.
Sheriff David Walker says Malone was found in his cell with a bed sheet wrapped around his neck at 9:45 p.m. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Malone, 29, was charged with killing Samantha McNorton. She was last seen on Nov. 2 at the One Stop convenience store in Runaway Bay. Her body was recovered last Sunday in north Decatur.
In a jailhouse interview earlier this week, Malone said he acted “in the heat of passion” after suspecting his girlfriend of cheating on him. He was arrested last Thursday on a sexual assault charge in Parker County and led authorities to McNorton’s body.
He was formally charged with murder and moved from the Parker County Jail to Wise County on Sunday.
