LEWISVILLE -- Lewisville police arrested a 20-year-old on intoxication assault charges after he ran a red light and struck a school bus on State Highway 121 (Business).

There were no students on the bus at the time of the crash.

Lewisville Police Captain Kevin Deaver said Osiel Frias-Roberto, 20, was driving a 2002 GMC Envoy eastbound on Highway 121 when he ran through the light and hit a Durham School Services bus that was crossing the intersection northbound on Railroad Street around 4:45 p.m.

A passenger in the Envoy and the bus driver were taken by ambulances to Medical Center of Plano and were both in critical condition as of Wednesday night. Frias-Roberto was taken to Medical Center of Lewisville with minor injuries.

The collision caused the bus to strike a westbound Honda Civic that was stopped at the red light. There were no reports of injuries in the Civic.

Investigators discovered open containers of alcohol at the crash scene and believe Frias-Roberto was intoxicated. He will be transported to the Lewisville City Jail.

Intoxication Assault is a 3rd Degree Felony and is punishable by 2-10 years in the Texas Department of Corrections and a fine of up to $10,000.
