DALLAS — Tommy White Jr. tried to explain Tuesday what he says happened to his daughter, five-week-old Spencer Claire White, last Friday night.
”I was just rocking, holding her... with a hangover," White said.
He said the baby was crying, and he was trying to get her to be quiet.
"Had one hand behind her neck, one hand on her bottom," White said, as he made the motions with his hands. "And I thought I held too tight, because when I moved my hand, I saw the nail marks."
White was home alone with the little girl at the time.
The baby's mother and White's father had gone to the store to get a pacifier. When they returned, the baby had stopped breathing.
"I asked them to come look at her, and they came to look at her," he said. "My girlfriend picks her up, and she says, 'Oh my God, she is not breathing.'"
Police say Spencer Claire had numerous injuries, something White denies knowing anything about. He told News 8 he didn't kill her.
So how did the girl end up dead?
"I don't know," he replied. "I told you my side of the story."
Garland police say White confessed.
He's jailed on a $1 million bond and charged with capital murder.
