TARRANT COUNTY — Kimberly Smith is now back in Texas and behind bars in Tarrant County. She was booked after midnight Sunday.
Smith is accused of kidnapping her 11-year-old daughter Jessica from Fort Worth earlier this month, then taking her to New Mexico and touching off an Amber Alert.
Police found them thirsty and hungry along a remote highway in northern New Mexico a week later.
Jessica returned to Fort Worth the following day.
Kimberly Smith returned to North Texas in a prison van which hit a deer in Colorado. All the prisoners on board were taken to the hospital to be checked out. No one was hurt.
Smith faces a charge of aggravated kidnapping, a first-degree felony.
Her next court date is Wednesday morning.
