FORT WORTH – Brittni Colleps, the Kennedale teacher found guilty of having sex with five of her students, finds herself in the national spotlight again tonight during a segment on 20/20.

The 28-year-old was sentenced to five years in prison on August 17. On Friday at 9 p.m., she'll speak with 20/20. While all of the men she slept with were older than 18, it’s still against Texas law for a teacher to sleep with a student.

In an interview segment released by ABC News, Colleps says all parties involved were consenting adults and that the sentence levied against her is too harsh.

“I’m not trying to say that it’s not wrong or immoral for a teacher to have a sexual relationship with her students,” she says. “I’m not saying that. But I don’t think that, in this situation, where there were legal consenting adults, it should not affect me or anybody else legally.”

News 8’s Jonathan Betz covered the trial in its entirety. Defense attorney Lex Johnston also argued that the legal consenting age of the students involved should have been enough to keep Colleps from behind bars. The defense was pushing for probation.

The prosecution showed the jury a slew of evidence against Colleps, including cell phone videos of the intercourse and text messages shared between the five students.

The jury took less than a half an hour to find Colleps guilty on each of the 16 counts of improper relationship with a student.

After the judge announced the prison sentence, Johnston said, “These were not boys, these were not children. These were grown men who connived, conspired, worked each other to be with this woman.”

20/20 airs Friday night at 9 p.m. here on WFAA.
