IRVING — Moviegoers were forced to evacuate the StarPlex Cinemas 10 in Irving Sunday afternoon after an employee was assaulted, according to Irving police.
Heavily-armed officers were called to the theater on West Pioneer Drive about 1 p.m. in what was initially reported as a medical call, then as a possible shooting, and then an assault, police spokesman John Argumaniz said.
It turned out that a theater employee was hit in the head with an unknown object during what was believed to be a robbery attempt.
The building was cleared as officers with assault rifles, body armor and shields searched for the suspect on the ground and even on the roof — but that person has yet to be found.
Paramedics transported the employee to the hospital for treatment with injuries that were not life-threatening.
The theater remained closed as police conducted an investigation.
