GRAND PRAIRIE – Grand Prairie High School's band director was arrested and charged Thursday with having an improper relationship with a student, district officials say.

Eric Camarillo, 36, was banned from district property and immediately stripped of all his responsibilities.

Lyle Gensler, Grand Prairie Police Department spokesman, confirmed the arrest and said the case is active and under investigation. He said the female student who accused Camarillo was enrolled at Grand Prairie High School “at or around” September of 2011.

Camarillo is jailed on $100,000 bond.

“We are outraged and deeply saddened by this situation. The allegations, if true, are reprehensible,” said Superintendent Dr. Susan Hull in a prepared statement. “Again, if true, this would be a violation of the trust between student and teacher and we urge law enforcement authorities to continue moving swiftly and to take the strongest possible action.”

Assistant Band Director Jared Bass will take over the band in the interim. Gensler said the department received the case yesterday.
