FORT WORTH - The grandmother of two children reported missing from their Kennard home in Houston County was arrested Friday in Fort Worth.

In a statement released Friday afternoon, the Houston County Sheriff's Office said Bonnie Miller, 48, was discovered around 3 p.m. hiding Navaen Simpson, 2, and Jordan Simpson, 1, around 3 p.m. inside a home on East Richmond Street in Fort Worth.

The children were found safe and their father was headed to Fort Worth, read the statement.

An Amber Alert was activated for Navaen Simpson Thursday night. Authorities said Thursday they believed Miller, the children's maternal grandmother, took the children and was possibly in the North Texas area.

They also released a description of a silver Honda Accord they believed the grandmother and children were traveling inside. Friday afternoon, a tow truck was seen hauling a car matching that description and with the same Texas plate number, CYX069, near the house where Miller was detained.

Miller's son disputes that the children were ever in danger.

"[My mother] has been here taking care of the children, like always," Marcus Miller said.

Miller's family said the children have always lived with their grandmother. She has cared for them since their mother got sick and died of lupus.

"Ever since they were born, she has been caring for them," Miller said.

The family said the children's father recently got temporary custody. Bonnie Miller, fearing she would lose her grandchildren, took them.

Kennard is located in East Texas about 173 miles southeast of Dallas.
