GARLAND — Garland police have confirmed an officer shot and killed a suspect who pulled a knife on him Friday afternoon outside of a Vietnamese grocery store at Walnut Street and Jupiter Road.

Police say the suspect, identified as 30-year-old Ismael Sadiq, charged at the officer outside Hiep Thai Plaza in the 3300 block of West Walnut Street, and the officer fired several shots.

Sadiq was taken to Medical City of Plano, where he was pronounced dead.

All officers are OK. They responded to a disturbance at that location, but no other information was given.

Hiep Thai Plaza remained open after the shooting, but with a large police presence.

The officer will be placed on administrative leave pending an investigation, as is typical in officer-involved shootings.
