COLLIN COUNTY — A former Plano Independent School District teacher’s trial started with disturbing allegations on Tuesday.

Joseph Peter Garbarini, 29, is charged with sexual abuse and indecency with a child.

According to the prosecution, elementary school students were placed in diapers by Garbarini. It was also brought out in court that he allegedly had students use sippy cups and passed out pacifiers to five and six-year-old children.

He was accused of inappropriate sexual contact with two girls in his class, with one mother saying he inappropriately touched her 5-year-old daughter during a diaper change.

His trial started Tuesday in Collin County for what prosecutors alleged went on in his classroom at Hunt Elementary in Plano ISD. He worked at Hunt Elementary for five years as a special education teacher.

The former kindergarten teacher resigned from the school in Murphy, before his arrest in May 2010.

He faces up to life in prison if convicted on two felony charges.
