CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- Teenage suspects, wanted for a homicide in Comal County, were caught at a Corpus Christi hotel parking lot Friday night.

On New Year's day, Skyler Burghart, 19, and  her fiance Austin Byrom, 18, allegedly killed 69-year-old James Carrol Spencer by stabbing him to death and then stealing his white Lexus four-door sedan. Spencer was Byrom's grandfather.

The Comal County contacted authorities in Corpus Christi to search the area of South Padre Island Drive for the murder suspects and the stolen vehicle. A Corpus Christi police officer saw the stolen vehicle in a hotel parking lot located at 8202 South Padre Island Drive. The officer followed the vehicle and learned it was the same vehicle sought by authorities in Comal County.

The officer initiated a traffic stop, but the vehicle accelerated from the officer until it stopped. The suspects were not in the car, instead two men who fled on foot.

Officers chased and apprehended the men. They are 35-year-old Marty Forehand and 18-year-old Daniel Smith. The two were arrested for evading arrest, but authorities learned they were not wanted for the Comal County homicide.

Corpus Christi authorities returned to the hotel parking lot in an effort to locate the murder suspects and saw a Ford F-250 truck leaving. Officers stopped the truck and a man and woman jumped out and ran, leaving behind a 9-month-old child. Officers caught the woman immediately and used a Patrol K9 and a helicopter to search for the man. The man was eventually detained. The suspects were identified as Burghart and Byrom.

The stolen vehicle and the truck were taken to the city impound lot. Officers delivered Forehand, Smith, Burghart, and Byrom to the city detention center. It's unclear how Forehand and Smith are connected to the murder suspects.

The homicide was the first of the year in Comal County.
