Ellis County authorities recover more than 1,000 marijuana plants

The Ellis County Sheriff's Office recovered 1,176 marijuana plants Tuesday five miles east of Ennis on Village Creek. The illegal grow operation was spotted during a routine flyover. The estimated street value of the confiscated plants, which ranged from 10-to-14 feet tall, is $588,000.

ELLIS COUNTY - The Ellis County Sheriff's Office recovered 1,176 marijuana plants Tuesday five miles east of Ennis on Village Creek.

The illegal grow operation was spotted during a routine flyover. The estimated street value of the confiscated plants, which ranged from 10-to-14 feet tall, is $588,000.

The plants were moved to a secure location to be processed and weighed for prosecutorial purposes, according to an Ellis County press release.

Sheriff Johnny Brown said the cooperation of the Ellis County Sheriff's Office, the Texas Department of Public Safety and Ellis County Commissioner Pct. 2 was "for the common good of Ellis County residents [and] is to be commended."
